Whitworth University Guest Parking System
This project focuses on analyzing the current guest parking experience at Whitworth University and proposing a digital solution to reduce confusion, stress, and inefficiency for visitors, students, and campus staff.
Working with a teammate, I conducted user research through interviews, on-site observations, and work activity notes to understand real pain points in the existing system. We found that visitors often do not know where to park, whether they need a permit, or where to get one, while students and security staff struggle with enforcement, misuse of visitor spaces, and lack of clear communication.
Based on these findings, we designed a mobile guest parking system that simplifies the process through clear workflows, interactive maps, and digital temporary permits. The design prioritizes low cognitive load, familiar visual language from Whitworth’s brand guide, and real-time clarity around parking availability.
The final prototype aims to:
- Help visitors park quickly without confusion or unnecessary walking
- Reduce enforcement workload for security staff
- Improve overall campus parking communication and experience
This project followed a full HCI process, including data elicitation, modeling, prototyping, and both analytical and empirical UX evaluation.
